About Us
A Vineyard Shaped by Nature
Set on the Essex coast, Thorrington Mill Vineyard is a place to slow down, take in the landscape, and experience English wine in a truly unique setting.
Surrounded by open skies, coastal wildlife and the gentle movement of the tide mill, the vineyard offers a calm and immersive escape – whether you’re visiting for a relaxed walk, discovering our wines, or joining us for one of our seasonal experiences.
From informal weekends of coffee, cake and wine, to guided Tours & Tastings, special Events and our online Shop, everything we do is rooted in sharing the vineyard at its best.

The Dream of Owning a Vineyard
Thorrington Mill Vineyard began with a simple ambition – to create something of our own, rooted in the land and shaped by the coastal environment around us.
In 2018, that vision became reality. A 12-acre vineyard was planted on south-facing slopes at sea level, carefully chosen for both aspect and proximity to the coast.
The vines – Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Bacchus – were selected for their strength within English winemaking, allowing us to produce a range of still and sparkling wines that reflect both the site and the season.
Mark & Polly Baines
Mark and Polly’s journey into winemaking grew from a long-standing connection to the land.
After establishing a landscaping and fencing business in 2002, followed by a glamping venture in 2015, they took on the family farming business in 2018, bringing everything together to realise their vision for the vineyard.
Named after Mill Farm, home to one of only three working tide mills in the country, Thorrington Mill Vineyard reflects both heritage and forward thinking.
Alongside the vines, the vineyard is carefully managed with specialist machinery and a small flock of Shropshire sheep, chosen for their natural ability to graze between the rows, a simple, sustainable way of working in harmony with the landscape.
