Our Pinot Noir vines (a mix of high quality Burgundian and German clones) are planted on a south-facing slope, that runs down to the salt marsh and tidal estuary. 2022 was warm and dry, giving us a pristine crop.
The grapes were destemmed prior to cold soaking and fermentation with gentle punch-downs, encouraging delicate aromatics and a fine tannin structure. The wine was then aged for 9 months in used oak barrels.
The result is a perfumed, supple Pinot Noir, with flavours of wild strawberry and forest floor, supported by soft tannins.
Only 4000 bottles have been made.
The still red won a gold award for Wine GB and overall best Pinot Noir in the Eastern Region from Wine GB.
It has also won a bronze award for the Great British Food Awards 2024. Judged by Chris Stein.Â
